I am a huge basketball fan.
For most of my life I have been an avid Phoenix Suns fan and enjoy playing and watching the game of basketball.
The Suns struggled this year so my normal playoff time passion has been quelled until the finals started. It is fantastic to see the two teams who are truly the best in the NBA going head-to-head.
No one this season was better throughout the year than the Golden State Warriors and despite experiencing some troubles early in the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers made it clear that they are the top team in the Eastern Conference.
My hope is that this will be a 7 game series and after Cleveland’s big win at Golden State last night, I think that is a strong possibility. Despite losing Kyrie Irving for the rest of the finals this Cavaliers team came up big with LeBron James dominating as usual. Golden State is a great team and will more than likely win at least one game on the road making for a long series. With the first two games going into overtime this is going to be a long, drag out fight to the finish.
I am rooting for Cleveland since the state has never won an NBA title. Who do you want to see win the NBA Championship this year? Let me know in the comments and here’s to what could turn out to be one of the best Finals in years!
I am ready to get back to blogging.
I had personal goings on that prevented me from writing as often as I would like, but I am forcing myself to get back on track with at least 2 posts a week like before.
This month will be a bit of a ‘mish-mosh’ of topics since a lot has happened in the past couple of months that I would like to share my opinions on.
I also need to finish up my reviews of the modern Wresltemania’s since I left off at 24 and still have 25 – 31 to go through plus all the new PPV’s that aired in the past couple of months (and there were a lot more than normal).
Mondays will be fairly random in topics with Wednesday’s focusing on wrestling as always. My daughter will also be getting back on track with her fandom posts so you will see something at least 3 times a week from this blog.
I look forward to sharing my opinions again and hearing from everyone else.
Normally I have a topic of some sort to discuss on Monday’s, but today I am a bit under the weather and my brain is not fully functioning. I am looking forward to not only feeling better ASAP, but also to getting some rest and having a good week overall.
My schedule has been a little hectic lately, in a good way, so my goal of reviewing all the Wrestlemania’s from 2000 on is not going happen before this Sunday’s Wrestlemania 31. I will have a few more to talk about though on Wednesday plus there were two WWE Live Events here in Arizona this past weekend and I had the pleasure of attending both so I will give a rundown of both of those this week as well.
I am going to try to trudge through my work day and get some rest tonight. Have a great Monday!
Last night I took my 13 year old daughter to her first concert, Fall Out Boy.
I now officially know what my father felt like when he took me to my first ever concert (which was Lita Ford, Black ‘N Blue, and Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force by the way). I felt like a father who’s goal was to make sure things went well, not embarrass your child, and try not to look too out of place. I think I did fairly well in those regards.
Overall, this was one heck of a show. I was surprised by how familiar I was with the majority of FOB’s music. It was nice to hear them sound the same as they do on their albums. I have been to a lot of concerts and there have been a few that were terrible live, but Fall Out Boy is not one of those. They had a big screen flash all kinds of videos and images throughout the set with my personal highlight being when they performed ‘Immortals’ from Disney’s Big Hero 6. During the song they played scenes from the movie and that was the first time I have ever seen a Disney animated film at a rock concert and I must admit I loved it.
My wife and daughter also had a great time and if they want to check out Fall Out Boy again I would not be opposed. Sometimes I get in to ‘old man mode’ regarding modern bands, but I must admit that Fall Out Boy is a damn good band that puts on a great show no mater how old you are.
This past Saturday my family and I spent the better part of the day at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. It was a lot of fun and I am already looking forward to next year.
There are Renaissance Festivals just about everywhere now-a-days and if you have not been to one you should give it a shot.
Some people are a little put off by the cast of medieval garbed employees and visitors, but it is easy to avoid that and just enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes.
This year we did not watch any of the myriad of shows for the most part, but instead walked around, shopped and ate. The food there is incredible and we indulged in various meats-on-sticks (steak, chicken, sausage), corn on the cob, and roasted pecans. It is the one time of the year where I cut loose and enjoy the food and this year was no exception.
The shopping is great as well since most of the stuff you find can only be seen there and a large amount of it is handcrafted.
I cannot recommend enough to visit your local Ren Fair at least once to see what the fuss is about and maybe even make it an annual event.
One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I am always in the middle of a novel, reading a magazine, following blogs, etc…
I have been this way most of my life and cannot imagine a time when I did not want to read. In my opinion anything that involves written words and your eyes moving between them with your brain processing the meaning of those words counts as reading. Whether you are reading a classic novel, cheap romance book, or even a comic, it is still reading and a good way to work that particular part of your brain.
I tend to go from serious literature to mindless fun depending on my mood. What I am most amazed by is people who say they do not like to read. For some, the feeling is you must be reading what is considered by most to be a legitimate, well respected novel in order to be a true reader, but that is not the case. Perusing a blog post is reading and can be very enlightening. Even checking out the latest superhero comic count as reading and works parts of your brain that need to be exercised often.
I enjoy all forms of entertainment from movies and television to gaming and collecting sports cards. The one thing that keeps my mind going though is reading. Without reading I would not be able to expand my knowledge of the world around me which has been a goal of mine in adulthood.
Even if you do not consider yourself a reader and do not have the patience to dig into a big book, go ahead and grab your favorite magazine or read something online and realize you are more of a reader than you originally thought.
I am trying a bit of an experiment. I am normally a pretty happy guy, but like most people I tend to focus more on the negative than the positive. Perfect example is I am thrilled to be employed, but not overly thrilled of what I do for a living. I have looked for jobs that I would be good for and more happy doing, but they are not too keen on hiring me just yet. I am not young and my options feel limited, but I know deep down there is something better out there for me that I can really enjoy and feel like I am doing positive/useful work.
I still have these moments of ‘I am stuck here’, ‘I am unqualified’, ‘I am going to die here’, etc… What I believe I need to do is have a better attitude towards my current job and at the same time realize there is something better out there for me…it is just taking me a while to find it.
I always here about how a good attitude can have positive effects on your life. Well, time to finally test that theory. I have been lucky to have an overall good life, but professionally I have never been 100% satisfied. I do believe strongly that there is a much more satisfying job out there for me. I just need to open my eyes and attitude for it to happen.
Okay, today is day one of a great, positive attitude. Lets see what good things I can make happen!
Just a short bit of random thoughts this morning…
I woke up today and noticed how weird the weather is here in Arizona, not that I was not already aware of that fact since I have lived here my entire life.
This time of year when you wake up it is still chilly enough to wear a sweater or jacket, but by lunch it is too warm. My car was frosted over when I woke up, but by this afternoon I am already feeling warm and need the air conditioner running in my car.
Now don’t get me wrong, I would rather have 80 degree weather than massive snow storms, etc… I would like to have a white Christmas at some point in my life though. I just need to figure out where to move where I could get snow, but not too much…I have a feeling that place does not really exist except in my mind 🙂
I finally got myself back to my pre-holiday weight. I spent most of January hovering between 197 and 200 lbs., but as of last Friday I finally got back down to 192 which puts me 7 pounds away from my goal weight.
Exercise has been sporadic lately, but I am still keeping fairly active and looking to get right back on the exercise track this weekend. The exercise is key for me to get to a point where I am not embarrassed to be shirtless on the beach or poolside since I am still a bit ‘doughy’.
Weight loss can be a struggle at times, but seeing the results makes things a little bit easier for me. As long as I eat healthy, try to be as active as possible, and keep up a positive attitude I will succeed at this by not only losing that last 7 lbs., but keeping it off as well.
Anything I can do to extend my life as long as possible is worth the struggle.
Or is this year already going by too fast?
I keep feeling like Christmas/New Years was just last week, but we are already in the second month of the year. Plus, with February being the shortest month of the year, it will suddenly be March. Where the heck did all that valuable time go?
As I get older I notice that time seems to be constantly slipping away and moving at a pace I do not really like. I wake up in the morning and look at my wife and feel like I did when we first got married…happy, excited, looking forward to the future. Then I realize we have been together for 15 years and our daughter is a teenager already!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the progression of time and life since it means I get to watch my daughter grow up to become a smart, strong, and beautiful woman and my wife and I continue to strengthen our relationship and love for each other everyday, but damn, I need to figure out how to control time. If you already know, please leave a comment 🙂
Sorry for the randomness of today’s post, but the speed of time has been a topic in my mind for quite some ‘time’.
