The Network

WWE-Network-Logo

Okay, I know I have covered this before, but it must be re-visited. If you are a wrestling fan and buy even a couple of PPV’s a year you must subscribe to the WWE Network. It only costs $9.99 a month with a 6 month commitment and you get all the new PPV’s live and hundreds of hours of past WWE shows.

Nearly everything from WWE and WCW is available and if it is not currently there it will be soon. Saturday Night’s Main Event, documentaries from the various WWE DVD’s that have been released over the years, every WWE PPV ever, all the WCW PPV’s, and shows from various promotions like ECW, WCCW, and many more to come.

There is original programming as well like The Legend’s House, The Monday Night War documentary series, and many others.

If it is not currently on the Network it will be soon like my favorite Rock ‘N Wrestling cartoon from the ’80’s that may be cheesy as hell, but I still enjoy it.

I am saying no more because I hope you are subscribing right now and already enjoying a Royal Rumble marathon!

The Grand Canyon

gc

September 24 was my 40th birthday. I am one of those people that really enjoys my birthday and always looks forward to it, but usually we do things low key, have a fun birthday party with the family and nothing more. Since this was my 40th and my wife celebrated her birthday the next day on the 25th, we decided to do something special and visit the Grand Canyon and spend the night in Flagstaff.

Not only was this possibly the best birthday I have ever had, it was also one of the best vacations we have had as a family. It was relaxing and very nice to get away from the city.

If you have never been to the Grand Canyon it must be added to your bucket list. The weather is perfect and the view is unbelievable. Sometimes you forget how beautiful the world is living in the city and dealing with traffic everyday, but when you visit a place like this you realize there is still a lot of beauty out there.

We hiked along the South Rim Trail because we were not quite ready to climb down the Canyon itself. We took in the great weather and got a nice cardio workout with the steep inclines and declines. We are already planning another trip out there with an overnight stay in one of the lodges at the Canyon and a train ride.

Simply put, just go there and see what all the fuss is about. It is not just a big hole, it is a true natural wonder and one I plan to hike down some day soon.

CM Punk

480x200xcm-punk-7-1412759999-2277950.png.pagespeed.ic.iQCB6EWsci

The saga of CM Punk is one that has overwhelmed the internet wrestling community for the majority of the year. The IWC has been consumed with the drama that led to Punk’s sudden departure from the company that made him famous earlier this year.

For the rare wrestling fan that is not aware, CM Punk suddenly left the WWE in January of this year and does not look to be returning any time soon. Apparently he was burned out, not happy with his schedule and the wear and tear on his body, and did not feel he would be pushed as the top guy in the company. For the most part I understand where he is coming from. It is difficult when you work your ass off for a company and never get the credit you deserve. Wrestling is a very difficult business where you can find yourself working over 300 days a year and putting your body through an incredible physical strain which winds up hurting you emotionally as well. The fame and money can be unbelievable, but the physical and emotional strain can be overwhelming at times and make one question whether the financial success is worth it.

There are two basic opinions out there regarding his departure…those who understand and fault the WWE and those who think Punk is just a drama queen and needs to get over himself.  I only have one opinion of the entire situation:

STOP CHANTING HIS NAME AT WWE EVENTS

I understand during the first couple of months of his departure with fans wanting to show their support for a performer that was involved is some memorable matches. Now it is October and the world has moved on. Sometimes the fans will chant his name for no good reason or they will chant his name during his wife AJ Lee’s matches which is now just getting annoying. He is gone and we all know at some point he will be back, but for now just shut the hell up. It is disrespectful to the other performers and annoying to the people watching at home.

The chants are getting less and less, but they are still noticeable. We all know he will return at some point so just save the chants for that day and move on with your live’s. There is a lot of good stuff going on in the WWE so just enjoy it and chant for people that are still in that ring today busting their butts for all the fans and not going to hockey games and appearing on the Talking Dead.

Thank you and good night!

Doctor Who: 2005 –

Hey guys! This week I’ll be talking about the last five Doctors from Doctor Who; in this case, New Who.

The War Doctor, at this point, was just a plot for an episode. That’s what the War Doctor is. He is incredibly interesting, but he doesn’t make any sense in New Who. I really hope that he at least is mentioned within the twelfth Doctor’s time, because a part of the Doctor life- such a huge part too – shouldn’t just be swept aside like a companion getting new shoes.

The ninth Doctor was a great way to be introduced into this show. With Russel T. Davies in the head writing chair, it really made me feel like the Doctor truly did have compassion for everyone, but had a very deep background. Just from what he’s already done in Old Who, the one’s I’ve seen would be enough to make him how he is- and I haven’t seen a lot. I love Christopher Eccleston. He is such a great actor, and I really respect the fact that he chose not to do Doctor Who after the first season. I think if they had forced him to stay with a contract, the ninth Doctor would have started to lose what he had. He loved Rose so much, so much more than anybody else. His “dying” moment, he was truly full of love in that moment, and I think that’s what made the tenth Doctor care for everybody so much.

The tenth Doctor is my absolute favorite Doctor. David Tennant’s Doctor was a fantastic person- he had courage and bravery, but he was merciful. He was able to pull the switch when he needed to. You could tell he didn’t feel happy, or that he was glad to kill anybody, but it was what he had to do, to save everyone, so he did it. He was the most selfless Doctor, he was the most caring, most loving, most respectful for other lifeforms. He loved every companion, treated all of them like human beings and his best friend, and that’s what’s so amazing about him. He truly did think people had potential for greatness, to be amazing. As we know, the T.A.R.D.I.S. chooses the companions, but I feel like the Doctor definitely loves her choices.

I don’t feel like he would have made such an impact on me if it wasn’t for David Tennant’s acting. He did such a perfect job in my eyes. As a young child, David Tennant loved Doctor Who. He collected everything Doctor Who, and still does. He has his own action figure, which is so awesome to me. He truly loved playing the Doctor. That’s why he was so amazing. I don’t think there was ever a moment where his portrayal of the Doctor faltered. Not that I can remember, if anything.

Now, a warning, before I get into the eleventh Doctor; I really dislike Steven Moffat. In my, and an uncountable amount of other’s eyes, he comes off sexist, misogynistic, racist, elitist, and homophobic. In places it’s hard to see it, but in others it’s very obvious. I’ll try not to sit on that too much.

The eleventh Doctor had too much of a gritty feel at times, and then others it was completely the opposite. I don’t feel that they had a good mixture of the darkness and the light. I certainly feel like the female characters got swept aside too many times. They were treated like goddesses among the fans, but the Doctor himself treated them unfairly, like they were rubbish at times. The fact of the matter is, is that Moffat isn’t an amazing writer. I feel like if Moffat hadn’t been writing, I would have loved the eleventh Doctor. I feel that if he had loved his companions and showed that, not even as much as the tenth Doctor, he would have come off as a kind and caring person.

There’s a lot more issues that are hard for me to address, because this is something that really upsets me and that I cannot talk about calmly, and I know this will come off as very lazy on my part, but if you simply search ‘Steven Moffat is sexist’, you will find pages and pages and pages on the reasons how Steven Moffat is sexist, misogynistic, and all the others. Some of what you see may be worded dramatically, or with sarcastic tones, but please listen to what they’re saying. Here’s the University Study on Sexism in BBC’s Doctor Who, since there’s nothing I can say that isn’t already said in this study; http://rebeccaamoore.com/2014/05/29/university-study-on-sexism-in-bbcs-doctor-who-infographic/.

I have a lot of hope for the twelfth Doctor. Peter Capaldi is a great actor, he’s done great roles, and has loved Doctor Who since he was very young, just like David Tennant, so I feel like he’s definitely fit for this role. The only episodes I’ve been able to see is ‘Deep Breath’ and ‘Into the Dalek’, but so far it’s fairly good, stiff in places, but the acting has made me not worry about that too much and considering that the last three episodes of this season were written by women and that Peter Capaldi is really taking charge in what he will and won’t do, I have a lot of hope that things might be a lot different next season. I’m really hoping that Doctor Who’s writing room goes through a ‘regeneration’ of its own. They should definitely get women into the head writing room, people of color, and a new head writer.

So that’s how I feel about one of the BBC’s most popular television shows and it’s main character’s portrayal/writing.

Next week, I’ll review Captain America: The Winter Soldier! Have a Marvelous weekend everybody.

The Montreal Screw Job

MontrealScrewJob

The Montreal Screw Job is one of the most infamous moments in pro-wrestling history. For that rare wrestling fan who is not familiar with the story (or too young) the basic premise is Bret ‘The Hitman” Hart was getting ready to leave the then-WWF for WCW in November of 1997 and was ‘screwed’ out of his WWE Title and did not know how the match would end.

Hart was the WWF champion at the time and the original plan was for him to lose the title at Survivor Series on November 9th in his home country of Canada. Bret had a certain degree of creative control and felt it did not make sense for him to lose in Canada so he would simply vacate the title the following night on the WWF’s flagship show Monday Night Raw. The owner of the WWF, Vince McMahon, did not like that idea and was concerned he would show up on WCW’s show Monday Nitro with the WWF title.

Long story short, at the Survivor Series they had Shawn Michaels win the title with what was supposedly a surprise to Bret hence the “screw job” moniker. For greater detail please visit this site, Pro Wrestling Wiki.

My main goal in this blog post is to give my opinion on this well known event in professional wrestling, which is…this is the greatest and longest running work/storyline in the history of pro-wrestling. What has captured people’s attention over the years is the fact that this finish was decided at the last moment without Hart’s knowledge therefore, ‘screwing’ him over and causing a huge and supposedly very real reaction from Bret. He was angry, spit on McMahon, punched Vince backstage, and then went to WCW for an unfortunately uneventful run, therefore this was supposed to be a very real moment in wrestling where one of its icons got screwed over and did not know the ending of the match ahead of time.

I have one big reason for why this entire match was pre-planned and Bret Hart was fully aware of the ending before hand:

To this day we hear from Bret how Vince McMahon was a father figure to him, how Vince realized he could not afford to pay Bret any longer, and how he told Bret to go make your money in WCW and come back. Bret had creative control and a great relationship with his boss. Getting ‘screwed’ over did two things for both men. In regards to Bret it allowed him to leave for the rival promotion without looking like a turncoat to the fans. Second, it launched the evil Mr. McMahon character which helped to draw an incredible amount of money for the WWE during the Attitude Era. Sometimes things just happen organically in wrestling, like The Rock coming in as a blue-chip baby face with the fans hating him instantly and him using that to become the most successful wrestler in history. Most of the time in pro-wrestling things are well scripted out in advance and the way this incident worked out could not have been better for the WWE and Bret has always seemed like a class act to me and I feel would be the type to do whatever needed to be done to help his soon to be former employer be successful.

The other thing is the fact that at the time it was figured Bret would return to the WWE at some point and they had a built in storyline which could have been the biggest draw in the history of professional wrestling. It did not happen due to injuries, the unfortunate death of Bret’s brother Owen, and The Hitman’s stroke/bike accident. It would have been amazing to have that kind of built in heat if he returned to the WWE and started immediately in a feud with his boss. It would have been reminiscent of the Stone Cold/McMahon feud, but could have went in a lot of different directions that would have made the rivalry stand out and make a ton of money for all parties involved.

Everyone involved in The Montreal Screw Job treats it as a real and unscripted incident, but I have a feeling that at some point one of the parties involved will finally admit it was all a work. A great one, but a work none-the-less.

Montezuma Castle

MC

This past weekend we were supposed to go hiking near one of the rivers at Campe Verde in Arizona and once we got to a point on the un-paved ground and saw decent water damage to the road, I realized my Honda Civic was not built for off-roading so I had to turn around.

My family and I were a bit disappointed, but then we remembered we were close to Montezuma Castle and decided to pay a visit. We did not get a day of solid hiking, but we had a lot of fun visiting these ruins, taking our time to enjoy the area, and got to have a nice, calm picnic.

The only other time I have visited Montezuma Castle was a few years back and it was so hot we checked it out for a few minutes and then got back to the air conditioned car. This time it was in the 90’s and the weather was perfect so we had a nice, easy going time and really enjoyed the fresh air and amazing sights.

If you would like more info. on Montezuma Castle, visit the following website. It is definitely something to see at least once in your life and come to the realization that people actually lived in these mountains centuries ago.

This upcoming weekend we have various events planned so no hiking, but next week we are planning a trip to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon which should be a lot of fun. Two of the most beautiful areas in AZ and places everyone needs to visit at least once in their life!

The Avengers

Hey guys! Sorry for not making any posts for so long! There was a lot I wanted to talk about, and I just kept forgetting. This review is for the Avengers! I hope you all like it.

The beginning is really quite interesting. It establishes that this movie is about space and magic and the Chitauri without being over the top with it. The Tesseract is an odd thing, considering it is the power of the universe in a little cube, but I feel that with Phase One’s establishment of the Tesseract, it makes it not as out of the blue as it could have been. You really don’t have to see the other movies to love the Avengers though, and that’s something I love about it.

Loki’s character development seems really quite intense to me. I do understand that he just let himself fall into the abyss of space and how that could certainly be mentally damaging, but Loki is all tricks in Thor, and he seemed so much more in the mindset of ‘kill kill kill’ in this movie.

Now, after brainwashing the agents in the laboratory and having Clint shoot Nick Fury, Loki trips. This entire beginning of the movie, he’s sweating, and his eyes are sunken in throughout the entire movie- much like Clint’s when he’s been taken over. Loki appears to have a case of heat exhaustion (The symptoms of heat exhaustion are confusion, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, headache, muscle cramps, nausea, pale skin, profuse sweating, and sunken, dark eyes from dehydration). This could mean that maybe Thanos has partial control over Loki- how much he’s changed from Thor could allude to that too -, and/or that he tortured Loki (assuming that you can torture a Frost Giant with heat). This is all speculation, but I think it’s one of the best ideas that’s come out of the Avengers fandom.

The only issue I have with Steve Rogers/Captain America in this movie, is how he was written. He came off as too much of a comic relief character. Steve Rogers is incredibly smart, so I don’t understand how he couldn’t understand what Tony was talking about. I can see him saying ‘slow down’ or something of the sorts, but at times he came off as just an old man, and Steve Rogers honestly is not an old man- all jokes I make aside. This was the movie that made me fall in love with the character, but after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it made me reconsider how he was written in his second movie appearance.

I love Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. I think he was much better than Edward Norton, in appearance, how he was written, and how he played it. How Bruce Banner was written was really quite perfect. Him being in Calcutta, a place that’s incredibly loud and crowded and disease-filled, makes much more sense when you really think about it. Bruce is a scientist, he’s incredibly smart and most likely knows how to treat many of these diseases, he’s very caring and patient, – as we see when he runs across town with the little girl just to have Natasha tell him that S.H.I.E.L.D needs him – and he’s very calm. Calcutta would be the best place for him to feel like he’s actually helping, instead of what he most likely thinks; being a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode and destroy everything.

Tony Stark/Iron Man was fantastic. There isn’t much to say about him though. He’s obviously become more giving and compassionate, as we see from him being in a relationship with Pepper Potts and the sacrifice of his own life at the end, and I appreciate that. I also really love Pepper Potts. I think their relationship fit in really well with the movie. I don’t think it overwhelmed either of the characters. Pepper Potts was still Pepper Potts, Tony’s partner, but not just Tony’s partner.

I really don’t have anything to say about Thor. I liked his new design, but I certainly do feel like his character development came in Thor: The Dark World.

I’m really happy with how they wrote Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in this movie. The original members from the comics in the Avengers were Ant-Man, Wasp, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, so making her character exist in Iron Man 2 was a good choice, like Hawkeye in Thor. Having the character be a part of that world instead of just being thrown into the Avengers is obviously quite smart. She was built upon so well in the Avengers, she was really her own character, not just there for men’s eyes or to be the only female lead. The only time she was a ‘vulnerable female lead’ was when Hulk was raging in the helicarrier, and even then she really wasn’t made into a stereotypical female like it usually would with different companies and their movies. She had a psychologically understandable fear with the Hulk. It wasn’t an ‘oh please help me male lead’ sort of moment- it was a human moment. Her abilities include manipulation, agility, melee combat, and range combat. You cannot shoot, punch, kick, manipulate, or even in some cases get away from the Hulk. The Hulk is a monster. And Natasha isn’t. She may be a superspy, able to control her emotions, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have them. I really do want her to have her own movie, and I feel like it could be a real game changer for female heroines.

Maria Hill, Phil Coulson, and Nick Fury were all incredible. Nick Fury having a bigger role in the Avengers was the obvious choice, considering he’s the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, and how he was written was fantastic. Having Samuel L. Jackson’s usual exasperated, sailor-mouthed character he usually plays show through was perfect for Nick Fury. While Maria Hill had a more minor role, I still loved her. There’s not much to say about her, just going off the first movie she appeared in. And Phil Coulson was incredible. I think his character was perfect, and I loved him almost immediately. His quiet, yet kind and professional way of speaking is nice, and the fact that he’s a huge closet fanboy is great too.

Steve Rogers and Phil Coulson’s relationship is especially cute to me. Phil’s nervousness around Steve, his childhood (and probably adulthood) hero, and Steve’s professional and/or nonchalant sort of demeanor towards him. With the fact that Coulson also had mint condition collectors cards of Captain America, (not anymore thanks to Nick Fury) it’s obvious that Coulson really does admire Steve. I feel like in the sequel they could really build off of this relationship. I love the fight scenes and Loki’s second fight scene was cool and interesting.

Steve Rogers and Tony Stark’s relationship is really quite interesting to me. In 2006 through 2007 Marvel released a comic series, and to put it very shortly, the U.S. government issues the Superhero Registration Act in which Tony is on board with it, revealing that he is Iron Man, but Steve isn’t. The extreme opposing opinions causes Tony and Steve to fight, making just about every other superhero choose a side, and causing a Civil War. We all know that there is a fifty-fifty chance of them going to the Civil War route in the movies, and I feel like the writers did a great job having conflict between Tony and Steve without getting controversial. Although I will say, that Steve could have come with much better comebacks than he did throughout most of the movie. Steve and Clint are the wittiest and sassiest of the Avengers.

I enjoy Thor and Tony Stark’s relationship. It’s sort of like a sibling relationship, and I’m excited for it if they build on that in the sequel. How they met was really rad too.

Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff’s relationship is really interesting to me, because Natasha is obviously afraid of the Hulk, but she respects Bruce and isn’t afraid of him. I feel that Bruce is overall afraid of hurting people, but that he still is fond towards Natasha. I’d love to see what their relationship might evolve into.

I enjoy Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton’s relationship the most, because they are completely equals. They quite obviously care for each other, and if one of them was hurt or if they were killed, the other would most likely kill eighty people in two days. That’s one of the reasons why I want a Black Widow movie so much. I feel like we could learn a lot about their past relationship without forcing unnecessary romance into the film.

I think the Avengers was the smartest thing for Marvel to do, and they executed it almost perfectly. It has a great blend of comedy, sci-fi, and action. The fight sequences were really quite good, especially the ending one. With Clint and Natasha fighting like this happens all the time, Steve leading the policemen to guide the civilians away, Thor and Hulk bringing down the bigger guys, and with Tony’s sacrifice, I feel like it shows them working all together perfectly and shows their roles in the team amazingly. This was honestly a great movie.

Natasha and Tony saved the day, and I love that. Tony sacrificed himself for an uncountable amount of people, including his loved ones, and Natasha sealed the portal so that it would actually work. And while Tony’s sacrifice is definitely important and shouldn’t be swept aside, neither should Natasha’s intelligence and bravery.

Next week, I’ll be talking about all thirteen of the Doctors from Doctor Who. Have a Marvelous weekend!

NWO

untitled

The NWO was a phenomenon. The angle/wrestling stable started in 1996 when Scott Hall made a surprise appearance on WCW Monday Nitro. This was before the internet was a huge part of our everyday lives and most fans did not know that the artist formerly known as Razor Ramon had left the WWF and signed with WCW. Many fans, myself included, thought it was the long dreamt of cross promotion between WWF and WCW. World Championship Wrestling even played it that way. Scott Hall sold this ‘invasion’ angle very well and a couple of weeks later he was joined by the second ‘invader’ Kevin Nash, formerly known as Big Daddy Cool Diesel. Due to a lawsuit from the then WWF for false advertising, WCW made it clear both men were not a part of the rival wrestling organization and were working ‘independently’. Nash and Hall became known as The Outsiders and began dismantling the WCW roster. Even though the NWO was the key to launching the Monday Night Wars into the stratosphere and helping to make wrestling the biggest form of entertainment at the time, the cracks in the storyline could already be seen. Two men who made their careers in the WWF were beating the hell out of WCW staples which made the promotion look bad, but it did not seem like the higher ups in WCW realized this or perhaps did not care.

Overall, the angle was entertaining and got over with the fans big time. They started branding some of the PPV’s as NWO run and their t-shirts and other merchandise were big sellers. The NWO angle gave WCW the edge in the Monday Night Wars which they had for a little over a year and a half. Then things started getting convoluted. By late 1998 the NWO split into 2 rival factions (NWO and NWO Wolpac) with the majority of the WCW roster being allocated to either group. It seemed as though they forgot that the big draw was NWO trying to take over WCW, not actually succeeding and having approximately 30 members. The angle became too big for its britches and overwhelmed the creative team with all of the individual egos they had to appease. Slowly but surely the NWO fizzled out as did WCW as a whole. Without the NWO storyline it seemed as though WCW’s creative team had nothing left. In 2001 WCW went under and was sold to Vince McMahon and the WWF seceding the Monday Night War to the most well known wrestling promotion in the world.

In 2002 the WWF/E brought back the original three members of the NWO (Hall, Nash, and Hogan) mostly to show they were no match for the WWF/E roster. Besides Hogan having a very memorable match at WrestleMania that year against The Rock, the NWO was gone shortly after and despite a forgettable quasi-reunion in TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling) in 2010 they became another memorable past wrestling angle.

The NWO storyline was initially highly entertaining and kept me interested, but over time it became very predictable which can, and will, doom any angle. If handled correctly, this group could have lasted a good 5 years, but instead lost its momentum in just 2-3. During all of this the WWF kept plugging away and introducing the world to now legends and household names like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Degeneration X, etc… Individuals and storylines that kept things fresh and interesting while WCW put all of it’s eggs in one basket called the NWO.

The New World Order was a great idea that was initially executed fairly well, but egos and weak creative teams could not maintain it.

Getting Fit

37088

Since February 2013 I have been working on losing weight. Before today the only time I would really talk about it was when people asked me about my new appearance. I decided it would be good to share since even though I have lost a significant amount of weight I still feel fat since I have not gotten to my ideal weight just yet and these weekly blog posts will help me to record the positive changes in both my body and mind and maybe get me to start realizing the great changes I have made to myself.

I have spent the majority of my adult life overweight and about 10 years ago I entered the morbidly obese stage. I had always talked about losing weight and from time to time I would lose 20 lbs. and then gain them all back plus a few extra. Partially due to some family tragedies and partially due to my laziness, I just gave up and decided I would be fat and, as I used to like to say, “We all die someday whether we are fat or skinny’. Not the most positive way to look at things, but that was where my mind was a couple of years ago. Despite diabetes being on both sides of my family, I still had the attitude of “there is nothing I can do about it”.

The turning point happened in December 2012. At my previous employer I would spend my lunch break on paydays shopping at a nearby Walmart for non-perishable groceries. It was a way to get out of the office and help my wife with some of the grocery shopping. While there I saw a display of baking supplies since it was the holiday season. There were 1 lb. Hershey’s chocolate bars and being the chocoholic I am, I decided to buy it. I figured I would eat a small piece once a day and that should not be too bad for my health. Well, I got back to work, ate a piece, and then 10 minutes later the whole pound of chocolate was gone. I questioned what I was thinking, where I was in my life, and just felt gross.

Around this time I learned about the Weight Watchers Points Plus Program. Basically, points are assigned to every type of food imaginable and you can only eat a certain amount of points per day in order to lose weight. You start off with quite a bit of points allocated to each day and then the points get slightly lower as you lose weight until you get to your goal and then your points remain the same in order to maintain that weight.

In the middle of February 2013 I decided to give it a shot despite my reluctance to diet. My weight was at 267 lbs. for a 6’0, 38 year old male. I figured if I lost 20 lbs. I would be healthier and then I could stop. Well, a couple of months later I lost those 20 and felt so much better that I continued the diet and do not have any plans to stop.

Fast forward to last Friday and I am currently at 207 lbs. A 60 pound weight loss was something I could not even dream of when I started this diet and now I am looking forward to losing about 20 more lbs. and getting to the ideal weight for my age and height.

Dieting is an interesting process. Initially, it seems like a major pain in the ass until you actually start doing it and seeing results. Now I look at it as a positive change in my life and I am glad I started it when I did since I turn 40 later this month and will be in the best shape of my adult life up to this point. Going from morbidly obese to just plain obese and then down to overweight is a strange thing to be excited about, but I am. Now I am closing in on my goal weight of 185-190 lbs. and feeling great about it. The only thing that I find a little frustrating from time to time is that I am still not in shape to the point where I am comfortable being shirtless at the beach or by poolside. That is why my wife and I decided to start increasing our physical activity. Hiking on the weekends is first and then in a couple of weeks we are purchasing DDP Yoga which will help us to increase our stamina, flexibility, and assist us in toning up so the next time I visit the beach or go to a pool party I will not be embarrassed to stand in front of others without a shirt.

BCL

Last Saturday we started our hiking regimen at Bear Canyon Lake in Arizona. There was a light rain part of the day, the weather was around 68 degrees, and it was a perfect day. We hiked for 2 hours with a slightly difficult decline and a more difficult incline on the return back. It felt great and we are already planning our next hike for the following Saturday. It felt great to be out in nature and away from the city and it felt even better to start some decent physical activity. It is also providing me with opportunities to see parts of our state I have not seen. It is easy to look at Arizona as a big, hot desert which it is in the city, but once you head just a couple of hours north it is nothing but beautiful weather with terrific scenery.

I am sure wherever we decide to go next weekend it will be just as beautiful and I cannot wait!

Brock Lesnar

untitled

Brock Lesnar is an interesting individual. It is hard to deny his place in pro wrestling and the impact he had in the UFC. Going back to his college wrestling days, he is a fighting legend.

I really enjoyed his early career in the WWE and thought he deserved his quick rise to the top. He could put on solid matches, attempted high flying moves like a top rope moonsault, and really seemed to have the desire to put on a great show for the audience. He was even occasionally nice to fans! Now he lives off of his name recognition, works only when he feels like it, and is generally rude to fans.

I always have an issue with performers in every walk of life who do not treat the audience with respect and treat their job, which they are extremely lucky to have, with respect and enthusiasm. I have no issue with Lesnar working a limited schedule. I fact, he is wise to do so since it can extend his career and better his life by not putting himself through the typical athletic grind. What I have an issue with is that his matches are not the best on the card anymore even though he is usually the main event. Without Paul Heyman as his mouthpiece I would probably change the channel whenever he came on.

At this past Summerslam he won the WWE title with a one sided beat down of John Cena. Even though his 16 suplexes in the match are treated as if they were impressive, watching them live was boring. The booking of this match was bizarre to say the least. I did not necessarily mind him winning since I am sure his title run won’t last a full year, but just destroying Cena was a boring and non-creative way of giving him the belt. I am assuming the re-match at Night of Champions will be much better, but I am not holding my breath.

With such a limited schedule I just wish Lesnar would put forth the effort to give us his best performances possible, but he does not seem motivated to do so. Once you no longer have the passion for your job in entertainment you need to retire and move on to something else. The world will be fine without seeing you every once in a while.
